HEADS UP: Artists For Choice art show set for June!
All right, people, now is the time to get in gear because on June 11, we are hanging up artwork as Artists For Choice at Electric Earth!
Cory (who's in charge of artwork at EE) will confirm final details with me later today. What's already confirmed is that we can show our art at the West Washington Electric Earth for an entire month in the month of June. There is another artist set for July, so we can't prolong that, but she says that if we'd like, at the end of our month (around July 11) we can move our artwork from their West Washington cafe to their North Randall Electric Earth cafe for a second month. I leave it up to you what you want to decide; we can discuss more of this at the next meeting (more on that later).
In the meantime, these are the general guidelines, as had been discussed and confirmed at the last Artists meeting:
- All participating artists must submit a list in writing of what they plan to show, as well as a $5 sign-up fee/donation. The $5 will be used to cover present and future group costs, such as publicity flyers and the like. Please note that it is only $5 per participating artist, not per art-piece, so rest easy; you donate the same no matter how many or how little pieces you have. Volunteers are not required to pay the sign-up fee, though they're more than welcome to donate and support if they wish.
- This list and donation is due June 7 if you wish to take part. I volunteered to be the unofficial treasurer** at the last meeting, so you can either mail them to me or arrange to meet with me to pass them on to me by that date. You can also attend our next Artists meeting and pass them on then (we should quickly arrange to have that meeting soon -- more on that later). The list must contain:
- Name of Artist
- Name of Artwork
- Medium (eg. ink, digital, painting, 3D sculpture, performance art)
- Size/dimensions of artwork, if applicable (10"x5", etc)
- Contact e-mail & phone no.
- The list represents your written confirmation of what you plan to show. It will also give the rest of us an idea of how many pieces we'll have and how much space we can allocate. For instance, a bunch of smaller artwork takes up the same space as a single large piece. We will seek balance, but if necessary we may have to limit the artwork on your list for space purposes, depending on its size. We will inform you about this before the hanging date.
- The hanging date is tentatively June 11 (unless Cory calls back with a different date). There will be a specific window of time for you to drop off your artwork. All approved participating artists must drop off their art during this time (eg. 10am-2pm, or 2pm-5pm, to be determined once I confirm with Cory). The artwork must arrive ready to hang, i.e. already be set with hanging wires, etc. More on those details next time. We*** will hang it for you, or if it is 3D art, will place it on display for you. But it is your responsibility to have your piece(s) at the cafe at the specified time ready for display.
- You must provide placards for your own artwork. You know the type: it will state things like your name, name of the artwork, medium, whether it's for sale, and how much. It must come either attached wih your artwork (eg. some artists have it as part of the frame) or be supplied with your artwork when you drop it off (in a way that it won't get misplaced,
please). We will mount it for you, if applicable, though you should ensure that it be able to adhere to the wall.
Once we're all set, we can do a quick blitz of publicity and promos.
We should have another Artists meeting the first week of June, to prepare for the art show. Set a time and date, people. Preferably before the 7th or 8th.
If you have any questions, speak up! Katharine, if I'm forgetting anything that was covered in the last meeting, let us know?
** Since I'm voluntary treasurer, any expenses you incur on behalf of the group can be reimbursed, so long as you provide me with a receipt. Photocopies of flyers, etc. Said expenses should preferably be approved by the group beforehand, of course; I can't quite see us being able to reimburse the purchase of a Lexus at this point in time.
*** By "we" I'm referring to some of the artists and volunteers, and maybe the cafe if they can help. Katharine, me, Sara, and Jackie have been doing a lot of helping out and organizing so far. If you would like to help out, please let us know! We welcome it.
